Music at Mickelson Middle School

The philosophy of our Middle School Music Program is to provide ALL students with a strong General Music foundation based on a comprehensive music education curriculum.

• All sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students take a General Music class every day for 7 weeks each school year.
• Band, Choir and Orchestra meet two to three times a week and students may participate in all three groups. 
• Of the nearly 700 students attending classes at the Middle School level, approximately 400 of them participate in one or more performance organizations.
• In addition to their rehearsal periods each week, students involved in instrumental music have a small-group, like-instrument lesson every week.

Performance opportunities for Mickelson Middle School students include two concert bands, four choirs, orchestra, Jazz band, and two select choral ensembles (open by audition). All General Music classes, group rehearsals, and group lessons are taught by three full time music instructors.
